History of St. Thomas

Youth Groups

St. Thomas Youth Group is the link between the classic and contemporary ways of this church. Through service within this parish and through the community of Glassboro and neighboring towns, the members of St. Thomas Youth Group continue to spread and share the essence of Episocalianism with great fellowship.

It's in this fellowship that two of our youth serve on both the Diocesan Youth Council and continuously attend the dioceses' Youth Choir Week every summer. Along with their service, members of this youth group sang at Bishop Council's inauguration, have been ushers and program holders at diocesan conventions, and experience the word of God through friendships in many activities. Annual spring youth retreats to Halawsa and Lebanon, as well as the Bishop's Ball allow this parish's youth to share and grow in their faith. Also St. Thomas Youth keeps the over 100 year old church looking lively by raking leaves in the fall and keeping the grounds maintained by several youth who mow the lawns. Huge parish events such as the Ham and Oyster Supper and numerous yard sales run with much ease due to the set up, tear down, and service of many of St. Thomas' youth. What is a Sunday service with out at least six youth members acolyting? Bowling parties, lock-ins at the parish hall, church picnics and trips to Hershey Park gather together children, parents, and youth to knit together faith through the generations.

Through this quote *"you must be the change you wish to see in the world", the creative directors of St.Thomas church school have taken on the challenge of teaching not only high school aged young adults the relevance of Christianity in the world, but middles schoolers as well. Bible study and the relation of life in this century to the teachings of the bible make religion a down-to-earth comfort to the youth of St. Thomas. Year long confirmation class as well as an interactive service where all the youth play a role make coming to church less of a nap time and more of a spiritual experience. It's through the dynamic teachings of many parishioners that the youth are able to up-hold their religious beliefs to their peers and to all the falsified media hype, not only on Sundays but by sporting " And they will know we are Christians by our t-shirts" shirts. This youth group is able to be light-hearted as well as carry on a serious message in their everyday lives. With the support of the whole parish the youth group is looking to make the future of St.Thomas a second home for their families.
