History of St. Thomas

Worship

Our church family comes together in worship using both Rite I and Rite II of the Book of Common Prayer. Rite I is used at the 8:00 a.m. Sunday service along with the Holy Eucharist and sermon. The 9:30 a.m. Sunday service uses Rite II with the Holy Eucharist, and at this service the choir and congregation sings joyfully to the beautiful music provided by St. Thomas'  organists. Our 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening service uses Rite II with the Holy Eucharist. In July and August, services are: Saturday 5:30 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

In the parish hall, there is a Children's Chapel service with the Holy Eucharist. Four of St. Thomas' Lay Eucharistic Ministers participate in the Children's Chapel service as needed. Our Priest celebrates the Holy Eucharist once monthly with the children at their service. Although parents with young children often prefer them to attend Children's Chapel, children are welcome at any St. Thomas service. In July and August, there is no Children's Chapel, however, one Sunday each month is designated a Children's Service, where our young children participate in the service.

Lay participation is an important part of our worship services. Members of the congregation read the lessons, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers assist in serving communion. The youth of our church are actively involved as choir members, acolytes, and chalice ministers. Sharing the Peace is a special time during the service at St. Thomas' where the love of the St. Thomas Parish Family can truly be felt and witnessed in the exchange of handshakes, hugs, and well wishes. By worshipping together, we become a family serving God, our Creator.
