History of St. Thomas

Organizations

The Vestry provides guidance, funds for extraordinary activities, start-up funds and approves new ventures. All organizations report to the parish at the Annual Parish Meeting.

Sunday School - St. Thomas Sunday School is self-supporting and provides Christian education from pre-school through adult. (See Christian Education)

Buildings & Grounds Committee - This group of volunteers meet weekly, or more as projects require, to complete repairs, renovations and landscaping to the church, parish hall, rectory and grounds.

Delta Sigma Society - This organization is a fund raising and fellowship group of churchwomen. This committee meets on the first Monday of each month. Delta Sigma provides the altar flowers for both Easter and Christmas with donations received from the congregation. This society also is involved in Outreach making cookie baskets for the residents of the Friends Home on St. Patrick's Day and also sending packages to those in the military.

Fund Raising Ham & Oyster Committee - One of St. Thomas' major fundraisers, this delicious dinner is held each year on Election Day in November and is now in 2009 in its 82nd year. The support of over 120 volunteers results in a successful fundraiser generating the largest single donation to the church.

Art Auction Committee - This committee put together the church's first art auction fundraiser in 2004. With the success of this inaugural event, a second auction was held in  2006.

Long Range Planning Committee - This committee conducted a survey of the congregation to determine the future needs and vision of St. Thomas. Goals are reviewed and appropriate sub-committees are established to implement or determine feasibility of ideas. The handicap access and web site are examples of projects resulting from feedback from the congregation.

Archive Committee - This committee has the responsibility of collecting, preserving, and maintaining documents and records pertinent to St. Thomas' history.

Youth Group - The youth of St. Thomas join together for fun and fellowship. (See Youth Group)
